I became a doula because my own birth experiences were so transformative. My support team was outstanding and I felt loved and so well cared for. As I shared my experience with others I was saddened to realize that many of my friends had had birth experiences that left them feeling defeated instead of uplifted. Often I heard of feeling alone, frightened, bewildered or misunderstood. I know how important the experience of childbirth is to a woman and I feel called to help women have an experience that they will always cherish. As a doula I am committed to listening to each of my clients and understanding what they want from the birth experience. I encourage each mother I work with to envision what her perfect birth experience would be. Using my training and experience I help each mother have the experience that is right for her, and of which she has dreamed. One of my strengths is considering the partner’s desires and needs, as well. One nurse commented that she felt I offer “whole family” doula service and I consider that to be one of my best compliments! I hope every family I work with feels as loved and well cared for during their birth time as I did.
